Review of 'Death at the Chateau Bremont' by M.L. Longworth

Death at the Chateau BremontDeath at the Chateau Bremont by M. L. Longworth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My nephew recently introduced me to this series of mysteries that take place in the south of France, in Aix-en-Provence. The principal characters are an examining magistrate, Monsieur Verlaque, and his on again off again girlfriend, law professor, Marine Bonnet. The books are worth the price of admission just for the descriptions of the meals the two enjoy, but the plots and the physical surrounding of Provence make this series doubly enjoyable. These are well written, well-crafted stories, with a smattering of history, and a large dose of local color. They are in a word, delightful. If you like Donna Leon’s Venetian detective, Brunetti, and David Hewson’s Rome detective, Nic Costa, and Louise Penny’s Quebec township mysteries, you are sure to like any of the books by Longworth featuring her iconic characters in this most French of settings.
